A Ramadan headache?

If this time of spiritual reflection is spoilt by headaches, take the following advice from headache specialist Dr Elliot Shevel to heart.

Take action
:
To prevent caffeine-withdrawal headache,

  • Reduce caffeine consumption in the weeks preceding the month of Ramadan and drink a cup of strong coffee just before the start of the fast (sahur) for the day;
  • Eat a meal with a low sugar content before the fast to prevent a sudden spike and subsequent drop in blood sugar levels;
  • Drink enough fluid before the onset of the fast to prevent dehydration;
  • Try to avoid stress;
  • Get enough sleep.
